UHB has an exciting offer for Newly Qualified or Band 5 Learning Disability/ Mental Health Nurses.

As an acute NHS provider our patients often present with complex health issues and we are seeking Learning Disability/Mental Health Nurses who wish to explore nursing careers in acute hospital inpatient settings.

Education and support would be offered to ensure a supportive transition into practice in an acute physical health care setting. This will include a supportive induction/ training and education.

Your skills are ideally suited in some of our acute services in Trauma and Neurosciences. We also have successfully embedded LD/MH Nurses within our adult nursing teams working side by side to deliver and coordinate care.

You could be a final year nursing student or a Band 5 Nurse. Our shift patterns are typically long days/nights (11.5) we are able to accommodate shorter 7.5 hour shifts too. We have opportunities for staff wishing to work from 22.5 hours up to 37.5.

Main duties of the job

  • You will work according to the NMC Code of Professional Standards of Practice and Behaviour and follow the relevant professional guidelines
  • You must always use up to date knowledge and evidence to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate care
  • You must achieve and maintain mandatory and statutory training, develop and maintain clinical competencies, skills and knowledge which relate to the area of clinical practice
  • You must respond to patients, relative and carers concerns as they arise and take remedial action as required
  • You will take charge of the practice setting as required/ or a defined area of the practice setting
  • You will take responsibility for undertaking tasks delegated by the nominated line/shift manager
  • You will contribute to the development of service and quality improvement to enhance the patient experience
  • You will delegate to and supervise the work of other staff registered and unregistered, students and trainees
