We currently have a vacancy for a Medical Secretary within General Surgery department. The post holder will be expected to perform a high level of secretarial and administration tasks within the role. You will need to be able to work efficiently, accurately, work flexibly and confidentially. There may be the need to occasionally work across site.

Your duties will include secretarial support to the secretarial team, clinical team, audio typing of correspondence, dealing with telephone enquiries and a variety of other secretarial duties as well as managing the daily workload. In addition, you will be required to assist in the timely management and validation of patient pathways.

Previous secretarial experience and experience of working with the general public and or professionals is essential. You must have good communication skills with patients and colleagues at all levels and a flexible approach to your work.

Main duties of the job

You should have good written and oral communication skills and function well as part of a team, liaising with colleagues of all levels, using your own initiative and ability to prioritise work to achieve deadlines. You will need to be competent in a range of IT packages, including MS Office.

You will be a point of contact for patients, speciality teams and other departments for all enquiries relating to patient care. You will be responsible for the tracking of patient pathways in accordance with the National targets.

The role of Medical Secretary is interesting and varied and offers the opportunity to develop further and will include the need to uplift to cover the Senior Medical Secretary Band 4 at times of absence.

This post is working primarily at Peterborough City Hospital and may include some work at Hinchingbrooke Hospital.
