Job summary

Croydon University Hospital (CUH) and St George’s Hospital Foundation Trust (SGH), London are seeking to appoint a full time Consultant Urological Surgeon with an interest in Prostate Cancer.

The appointee will join a team of Urologists at Croydon University Hospital (CUH) and St Georges NHS Foundation Trust (SGH), London to provide Prostate Cancer services across both sites.

The appointee will provide core and sub specialist urology services at CUH, enhance the Prostate Cancer service across the 2 sites and provide robotic prostate surgery at SGH.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will be able to demonstrate a sub specialist interest in robotic Prostate Cancer surgery and will be encouraged to develop an academic interest.

Close involvement in the development of protocols, audit and risk management, as well as teaching will be essential components of the jobs.

The Urology Department is a tertiary referral unit and provides robotic surgery for urological pelvic cancer and renal cancer patients.

Normally activities are expected to be carried out on the Trust site, though this may be negotiable in respect of the supporting activities. The department workload and planning often requires a degree of personal flexibility. The final timetable will be agreed between the successful applicant, the Clinical Lead and the Clinical Director following appointment. Any further changes to the job plan must be for the betterment of the service and have the full support of the specialty division together with the Medical Director’s agreement. As a senior employee of the Trust you will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professionals and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trusts patients. Integral to these responsibilities is the following: –

  • The provision of a first-class clinical service
  • Effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty
  • Sustaining and developing teaching and research in conjunction with Croydon Health Services
  • Undertaking all work in accordance with the Trusts procedures and operating policies
