Practice Nurse or HCA required to workin a GP practice inHandsworth Wood, Birmingham. Mon – Wed only (Temporary post for 1 year to cover maternity leave).

1. To assist medical personnel in the care of practice patients, to include treatment, preventative care, screening and patient education.
2. To undertake administrative duties as required including call and recall of patients.
3. To work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary general practice team to meet the needs of patients. supporting the delivery of policy and procedures.
You must have good communicationskills, professional attitude and appearance.

Main duties of the job

Clinical
- NHS Health checks
- BP monitoring
- Urinalysis
- Phlebotomy
- ECGs
- Diabetic foot checks
- Act as chaperone
- Vaccination Clinics
- Smoking cessation advice
- Promote Healthy Living making any necessary referrals within the practice
- Weight monitoring
- Ensure specimens are labelled and bagged ready for collection with the necessary paperwork completed
- Ensure clinical waste collection runs smoothly, reporting any problems to the nurse manager
- Ensure sharps bins are ready for collection
- Restocking/maintenance of equipment
- Restocking of clinical areas and consulting rooms
- Setting up equipment for GP or Nurse led clinics
- Assist colleagues as required

We are an 8,000 patient practice located in Handsworth Wood, Birmingham.
A team of 1 lead GP, 5 Locum GP’s, 3 ANP’s, 2 Practice Nurses & 10 members of reception/admin.

Treatment Room Supplies and Equipment
Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by nurses and GPs.
Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required.
Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms.
Ordering of consumables when required.
- Organise the regular servicing of all clinical equipment in liaison with Nurse Administrator
Communication
- Demonstrate sensitive communication styles to ensure patients are fully informed and consent to treatment
- Communicate effectively with patients and carers, recognising the need for alternative methods of communication to overcome different levels of understanding, cultural background and preferred ways of communicating
Team working
- Understand own role and scope, and identify how this may develop over time
- Work as an effective and responsible team member, supporting others and exploring the mechanisms to develop new ways of working
- Delegate clearly and appropriately, adopting the principles of safe practice and assessing competence
- Ensure clear referral mechanisms are in place to meet patient need
