Job summary

The post holder will work with the iCaSH team members, to offer a high quality Psychosexual Counselling Service to Cambridge residents. The successful applicant will accept referrals from GPs, Consultants, Registrars, Specialist Nurses and from other professions allied to medicine as appropriate, according to clinic guidelines. The post-holder will use skills of assessment and analysis in joint care planning with the client and, for those with NMC registration, may work towards the use of the physical examination to aid diagnosis and management. The therapeutic contract will be short-term and focused on the presenting sexual difficulty in the context of physical, emotional and mental health history.

Main duties of the job

Work as an effective team member, taking a shared approach to team work, recognising and valuing the roles of different people in the team and respond constructively to feedback from team members

Undertake the process of assessment and diagnosis and analysis of each presented psychosexual problem as the major component of day to day work

Make use of and draw on the full range of assessment methods appropriate to the service, deciding the appropriate assessment methods for each case

Use evidence base, clinical experience and multiple data sources to inform clinical formulations and differential diagnoses

Applicants must hold College of Sexual & Relationship Therapists (COSRT) qualification and currently be on the COSRT register.

Essential

  • Accredited Membership of a professional Counselling/Psychotherapy body eg., British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP), UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), British Psychological Society Chartered Psychologist (BPS), College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT)
  • Registration with Health Professions Council plus further training and experience in psychosexual therapy, eg. Institute of Psychosexual Medicine (IPM) training to diploma level or above, COSRT accred., or evidence of equivalent

Desirable

  • Experience in couples and 1:1 therapy in a healthcare setting
  • Clinical experience in Sexual Health or related fields
