Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity to join a dynamic organisation dedicated to the service of children and families. Sheffield Children’s Hospital is one of four Children’s Trusts in the country and is a leading centre for development of integrated Children’s Services. You will work within Sheffield Community CAMHS in a post recognised by the Royal College of Psychiatrists, this is a new post working within Beighton Community CAMHS multidisciplinary team, assessing and treating children up to 18 years of age.

Applications are invited from those eligible to apply for a Senior Specialist in Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist post. This is an opportunity to work as a senior specialist within a multidisciplinary team. There are excellent opportunities for teaching, research, audit and leadership development.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be expected to work at the Beighton Team covering the south and east of the city. The post holder will be expected to participate in citywide developments and clinics, in collaboration with colleagues from the other Community CAMHS team if required.

  1. A responsibility to provide psychiatric expertise, to conduct comprehensive Assessment and to deliver evidence-based treatment to the children and young people referred to the team. The post holder could also be invited to contribute to the triage of referrals coming into the team, either through consultation with the clinician assessing the daily referrals or during weekly meetings. The post holder has a responsibility for providing senior medical advice and input into the management of patients as necessary, providing clinical leadership and ensuring that all patients under their care receive high quality psychiatric assessment, treatment and care plans. The expectation would be to see an average of 12 appointments per week.
  1. A responsibility to work closely with multi-disciplinary colleagues, to undertake joint visits where necessary, to actively participate in the team clinical meetings, to ensure that there is effective and timely communication of clinical assessments to other team members and to participate in the development of care plans.
  1. An expectation to participate in various specialist clinics that operate within the team. As more specialist clinics are commissioned, there will be scope to develop expertise in one particular area and to be supported by non-consultant staff in other areas.
  1. To provide comprehensive interventions with close monitoring of outcomes this would include Medication prescribing and/or supervising the Nurse Prescriber if necessary.
  1. The post holder will be encouraged to participate in the citywide developments as required.
  1. Essential

  • Medical Degree from a recognised UK or overseas university or institution
  • A minimum of 12 years full time medical work (or equivalent gained on a part-time basis) since obtaining a primary medical qualification, at least 6 of which will be in a relevant specialty at Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades or equivalent
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council with a licence to practice
