The Public Affairs Manager role is based within our Babcock Corporate Services (BCS) business unit.

Babcock Corporate Services (BCS) is a global function, with our largest site being Lakeside in Portsmouth, but we operate from multiple sites around the world. BCS supplies and operates all IT, security, procurement, and finance Shared Services. We are embedded alongside the operations that we serve, enabling us to maintain close working relationships that support delivery to our customers. We drive standardisation, simplification and automation across Babcock, to help generate sustainable value for the group and our external customers.

The role

The difference our new Public Affairs Manager will make:
As a Public Affairs Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Supporting the Head of UK Government Relations in the planning, coordination and delivery of Babcock’s UK public affairs strategy and outputs, taking personal ownership of particular groups, projects and on-going tasks / responsibilities.

Day to day, you’ll be developing, refining and managing the company’s relations and activities, with agreed parts of the UK government and UK Parliament, relevant industry associations, and broader, political opinion-forming stakeholders. You’ll also, be assisting as need be in facilitating ad hoc relationships with – and monitoring of – the Scottish and Welsh Government and Parliaments, the LGA and the Northern Ireland Executive/Assembly.

Essential experience

* Good working knowledge of the current political scene, UK government and Parliamentary processes, party political structures and key political contacts.
* Experience of working in Parliament, Think tank or Government Department.
* Understanding of the sensitivities of PLCs when approaching decision-makers.
* Experience of planning and delivering successful public affairs campaigns.
* Ideally, experience of working direct with government and/or other regulatory bodies.
