The Principal Engineer Mechanical Systems role is based within our Mission Systems business area.

The difference our new Principal Engineer Mechanical Systems will make
As a Principal Engineer Mechanical Systems you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will be providing Systems Technical Authority for the Marine Engineering systems on both the Royal Navy’s T45 Destroyers and the QEC Aircraft Carriers, which are essential in supporting both front line operations and the through life sustainment of the systems.

Day to day, you’ll provide proactive technical support to our Customer, working collaboratively with other stakeholders across the MoD, Royal Navy and industry and provide authoritative recommendations for design intent maintenance and update, including but not limited to safety case, hazard, design baseline, obsolescence, maintenance and technical documentation management, performance improvement, training and design change. Through consideration of specifications, standards, legislation and knowledge, you’ll apply appropriate engineering governance to Mechanical Systems technical outputs. You’ll ensure engineering and safety risks are communicated and managed appropriately and also apply systems thinking to ensure integration with adjacent systems, processes, stakeholders, and overall platform capability.

Essential experience

  • Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline and a Chartered Engineer
  • Significant experience in the marine environment
  • Someone who has held an engineering position on a ship or similar, including oil and gas or other safety critical environments
