The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

Applications are invited for the position of Medical Laboratory Assistant. This is an opportunity for an individual to work as a Medical Laboratory Assistant to work in a busy department which provides a full range of clinical and diagnostic services to NHS Tayside.

The Perth laboratory provides a high quality, analytical, interpretive and advisory diagnostic service, within the PRI campus. The Department is accredited to ISO 15189 standards by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).

The laboratory is 24/7 providing Biochemistry, Haematology and Blood transfusion analysis, rapid Covid swabs for red pathway and supports Point of care (gas analyser/ glucose / ketone).

As the department is 24/7 the ability to work 24/7 with weekend and pubic holiday requirements on a rota basis is essential to the role.

We are looking for a member of staff that can demonstrate team spirit, initiative, lone working, and flexibility to train further. You will be in a post that is essential to the delivery of all laboratory services within the PRI lab. You will also be expected to support the professional scientific staff in delivering the analytical services and to carry out general laboratory duties, and to assist with the preparation and receipt of patient samples for analysis.

Previous experience and employment in a hospital environment is desirable, but not essential. A 24/7 rota will be shared with expectation of unsocial hours, weekend and Public holidays working.

You will be required to achieve the mandatory Induction standards for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland and to comply with the Code of Conduct throughout your employment.
