Job summary

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and organised specialist child clinical psychologist to join our community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (LPFT CAMHS), we also welcome applications from recently qualified psychologists or those completing training who wish to apply for a full time band 7 preceptorship post. With a preceptorship position the band 7 post will progress to band 8a subject to the post holder successfully completing identified targets, based upon acquired skills and agenda for change job matching to an 8a job description.

The successful applicant will offer specialist clinical psychology input to the Boston core CAMHS hub -and will need to be able to travel between sites within this large rural county.

LPFT CAMHS is a specialist multi disciplinary service which offers assessment and therapeutic interventions to children and young people who present with complex mental health problems as well as to children and young people who have been victims of trauma; victims of abuse; who present with attachment difficulties. The service is very well established and is staffed with clinical psychologists, child psychiatrists, mental health practitioners (qualified nurses, social workers and occupational therapists); specialist therapists including CBT therapists; family therapists and systemic practitioners, and art therapist; assistant practitioners and assistant psychologists; Peer Support Workers and Parent Peer Support Workers.

Main duties of the job

The Specialist Child Clinical Psychologist will provide specialist clinical psychology assessments and interventions for children, young people and their families who are referred to the Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service .

The post holder will be expected to be able to engage with and work effectively with vulnerable young people and their carers, (including Looked After Children, children and young people with mild to severe Learning Disabilities; young people who are / have been in contact with the Youth Justice Service), and will be able to support and advise CAMHS colleagues in the provision of therapy to these young people.

The post holder will have specialist training and experience and will be expected to work autonomously within professional guidelines as well as liaise closely with other professionals and volunteers who work with children and young people and their carers and families. They will provide supervision to less experienced psychologists and consultation to other professionals. The post holder will provide regular placements to trainee clinical psychologists and will use his / her research skills to undertake research and development and audit activities. They will participate in CPD, LPFT’s annual staff appraisal and other developmental activities.

The post holder will assist with the provision of CAMHS from 9am-5pm Mon to Friday. The post holder may also be required to work one evening a week up to 8pm dependant on service need.

Clinical

  • To exercise full responsibility and autonomy for the assessment, treatment and discharge of children and young people referred to LPFT core CAMHS, and their carers and families, where the presenting difficulties and concerns can be managed as a psychologically based intervention.
  • To develop and provide a range of specialist clinical psychology assessments and interventions either as the sole clinician or in conjunction with other CAMHS colleagues; with other staff and agencies responsible for providing services to children and young people and their carers and families. To act as case coordinator / lead professional where appropriate.
