Job summary

Proteomics has become central to the accurate diagnosis of amyloidosis, and is now used routinely within the National Amyloidosis Centre. We are seeking to appoint a staff member to take over the day-to-day technical management of the joint NHS-UCL UKAS-accredited mass spectrometry facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and operating our Q-Exactive plus mass spectrometer (and associated equipment), and using and updating our in-house MASCOT bioinformatics software to identify amyloid and other proteins.

Main duties of the job

The principal role will be to handle clinical samples and generate proteomics data for presentation at the weekly diagnostic multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will also support the extensive proteomics research work of the Centre, and will also advise and train users in appropriate MS techniques.

The post holder will work independently and as part of the team to ensure efficient and effective processing of patient samples through the section. The work performed is undertaken in accordance with appropriate training and the ability to demonstrate competence.

The post holder will contribute to the implementation, monitoring, improving and management of the Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring compliance to ISO 15189 15189.

In addition, the post holder will contribute, as required, to the various research projects being undertaken within the Centre. The successful candidate will report to the Head of the Proteomics Facility.
