An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated Registered Nurse to join our award-winning stroke service.
Over the past 20 years stroke care has changed dramatically. Stroke is now treated as a medical emergency, where time is brain, and our service has developed to reflect this.
Our needs lead service admitting patients aged 18 upwards comprises of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team, including research staff, that deliver evidence-based patient centered care along our stroke pathway, from admission through to discharge to the community.
Patients are admitted directly from the emergency departments in York and Scarborough onto our Acute Stroke Unit. The role of Clinical Nurse Specialist – Stroke Nurse (HASU Nurse) is to offer a nurse led, 24/7 Thrombolysis and clinical assessment service across the populations of York, Scarborough and local Harrogate areas. This involves working on the Acute Stroke Unit and close liaison with the Emergency Department, Radiology and all other wards and departments across the organisation to facilitate timely assessment, hyper acute treatment and admission to the Acute Stroke Unit.
This role will include assessments of patients in TIA clinic and follow up stroke and TIA telephone clinics facilitating investigations and secondary prevention.
Our stroke service is measured nationally by the Sentinel Stroke National Audit Programme and works with a view to on-going continuous improvement.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work as in a pivotal role within the stroke team, working collaboratively with all specialties across the organisation. They will be responsible for assessment of patients who present with stroke symptoms, triage for hyper acute care and stroke admission.
Robust communication is essential with all members of the multi professional across the organisation and from community referrals.
The HASU/Clinical Nurse Specialist will provide clinical leadership on the ward and help facilitate patient flow within the hyper acute/acute stroke service.
