Role Summary

EQ is seeking an experienced Bulk Purchase Annuity (BPA) & De-risking Operations Manager to help establish and then lead a growing team responsible for delivering BPA services to its Clients and Customers. This is a new position within the Paymaster Division of EQ, created to support the framework design, and ongoing aggressive service growth of EQs BPA business line.

You should have significant experience in the pensions industry and a strong technical pension’s background, particularly in the area of Bulk Purchase Annuities.

Business Function

EQ Pensions Operations delivers an excellent service across our diverse client base. Our Pensions Administration teams including our newly created BPA teams are responsible for keeping accurate and compliant pension records for our clients and pension scheme members.

Core Duties/Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Manage and co-ordinate a team and monitor workflow to ensure that the daily, weekly and monthly workload is consistently completed as a minimum, in line with agreed service standards.
  • Ensuring the team’s performance, productivity, quality and capacity utilisation KPI’s are maintained at Green status, with monthly reporting to Senior Management and Clients where applicable
  • Maintain a solid understanding of wider business issues.
  • Continuously implement changes to the way in which the team operates to improve the member experience, the service quality and process efficiency.
  • Liaise with internal and external customers to identify any risks or issues and assist in shared solutions.
  • Lead, motivate, develop and appraise team members, identifying and closing performance gaps whilst providing development opportunities.
  • Monitor individual staff and team performance, taking actions to resolve problems in order to maintain operational efficiency and service quality.
  • Encourage and drive innovation from all personnel within the operational team
  • Sickness absence management; identity and manage any sickness issues within team
  • Disciplinary issues; ensure disciplinary procedure are followed for poor performers
  • Point of escalation for all BPA specific queries from customers, clients and schemes
  • Regularly liaising with the BPA Onboarding team to help manage and maintain the transition pipeline, including the scheduling of resource to support growth or contingency
  • Take responsibility for setting the standards of performance and quality to achieve a first-class service for all new schemes

Skills, Capabilities and Attributes

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following experience, skills and behaviours:

  • Previous management experience with an understanding of Corporate Actions within the financial industry.
  • Financial services qualifications desirable e.g. IOC, ICSA or if not, the commitment to study for and complete within 18 months of appointment.
  • Natural ability to lead, motivate and engage team members together with other business stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present to senior stakeholders within the operation and across the EQ Group.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to proactively develop new contacts.
  • The initiative to develop and maintain relevant technical knowledge.
  • Ability to forecast resource and costs to achieve maximum productivity.
  • Able to analyse and risk assess the planning of new tasks identifying system and process enhancements.
  • You should have significant experience in the pensions industry and a strong technical pension’s background, particularly in the area of Bulk Purchase Annuities.
