VolkerRail is a leading multidisciplinary railway infrastructure contractor, with over 70 years’ experience on heavy and light rail networks.

VolkerRail Major Projects

VolkerRail Major Projects is an expert in collaborative working through joint ventures and alliance schemes. Collaborative working agreements are a proven strategy for delivering large, complex railway projects, and through its strong relationships with other major contractors, VolkerRail Major Projects has helped to deliver several of the biggest rail projects over the last decade.

VolkerRail Specialist Businesses

VolkerRail Specialist Businesses is made up of expert divisions in signalling, track, power, electrification, and piling, working independently or together, for their chosen clients and operating at both Tier 1 and Tier 2 levels; each with the expertise to cover the full project lifecycle, from design through to fabrication, installation construction, testing and commissioning.

Specialist Businesses also has in-house design teams, undertaking detailed design work for signalling and power related projects, and a plant division, which owns and maintains a fleet of rail construction plant, including the UK’s biggest fleet of Kirow rail mounted cranes, along with On Track Maintenance plain line and S&C tampers, lightweight tampers, ballast regulators, Road Rail Vehicles, excavators and crane lifting machines.

  • Are you a strong communicator who is able to organise and manage teams to reach a common objective

If so, we are looking people like you to become Project Planners We are looking to recruit Project Planners into our expanding Signalling & Telecoms department. We are interested in receiving CVs of those that have worked in similar roles in different industries or those that have worked in the rail industry but would like a new challenge.

In exchange, we will provide Primavera P6 planning training and mentor and train the successful candidates to give them the ability and knowledge required to carry out the role in the rail industry and the skills to further progress their careers.

Key accountabilities

Key duties of a Project Planner are;

  • Providing project planning support to Bid Managers, Project Managers and their teams.
  • Ensuring that all clients tender and contractual requirements are understood and complied with in relation to project planning, resource planning and progress reporting.
  • Ensure the project plans for assigned contracts accurately reflect the technical workscope for the projects.

Acting as a key link between Planning and Project Managers, you will be responsible for highlighting issues, providing solutions to problems and reporting on a set of key performance indicators.

Skills & experience

In addition, you will also possess the following;

  • A measured and well organised approach to your work.
  • Confident communication skills, both in writing and in internal and external correspondence
  • Competent user of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point. Experience with primavera would be an advantage
  • A positive and enthusiastic approach to challenges and problems.
  • The ability to manage work to meet varying deadlines.
