Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced nurse/midwife with an interest in fertility to join our multidisciplinary Team, providing high quality care for women and also undertaking procedures and investigations.Experience in the delivery of a range of fertility treatment is desirable but not essential; an awareness of specific legal and time requirements of the HFEA is desirable. Experience in ultrasound scanning is preferable but training will be provided for the right candidate. This could be a development role working towards a band 6 with agreed targets.In time they will be responsible for treatment scheduling and nurse consultation to include health education and health promotion. Psychological support and education throughout the patient pathway is a key aspect of the role therefore excellent communication skills are essential. Educated to Degree Level they will need to be highly motivated, forward thinking and innovative with a passion for providing high quality specialist fertility care. The unit is based at The Old Chapel in Cheltenham but there will be some across site working.

Main duties of the job

Demonstrate specialist skills & knowledge in clinical practice pertaining to fertility, in particular treatment scheduling, nurse consultation to include health education & health promotion & emotional support.Perform clinical tasks & specialist fertility / IVF nursing procedures e.g. ultrasound scanning to include follicular tracking, early pregnancy, baseline, assessment scans & HyCosy Clinic & symptom management.Non-medical prescribing qualification or willingness to undertake all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the relevant legislation, in particular the Human Fertilisation & Embryology Act (1990), the & NMC. Analytical & judgemental skills for assessment of patients, planning &implementation of care & provide specialist fertility support & advice about IVF & other treatment. As part of the development opportunity the post holder will be expected to achieve the following targets, with support from the nursing & medical team, before review of the banding & uplift to a band 6, this has to be agreed with their line manager. This review will take place at a minimum of six months from to starting the role & a maximum of twelve months:o you would need to feel confident & be competent to scan independently.o Learn & able to plan treatment cycles. o Know the HFEA & Unit consents & able to explain them in detail for a planning appointment (excluding extended planning).o Be able to undertake early pregnancy scanning & early pregnancy advice

To ensure excellent standards of nursing care and provide expertise both in delivering direct patient care and in support of other staff caring for our patients

Maintain a good level of communication between all disciplines involved in patient care, both within the fertility unit, other hospital departments, GPs and outside agencies. Forging links between the main IVF units in neighbouring counties ensuring seamless care for patients undergoing assisted reproductive treatments

Be aware of the need for the unit to achieve set financial targets. Maintain adequate stock control of supplies and drugs in CFU. To work with the team to increase the throughput of self-funding patients, and to work within a set budget.

To ensure SYPHOL, Infection Control, Risk Management and maintenance of health and safety within the department is implemented according to unit and Trust policy and that every effort is made to identify and minimise potential risks / hazards.

Ensure all equipment is maintained in good working order and resuscitation equipment is checked on a weekly basis with discrepancies reported to the nurse in charge.
