The Job
Leonardo is a global leader in defence industry, which delivers Electronic Warfare (EW), Situational Awareness and Surveillance across the land, sea and air domains.
We are looking for a Project Engineering Lead to join the Integrated Mission Solutions (IMS) sector within the EW line of business. The IMS business area designs and develops integrated toolset solutions, used to support defensive aid equipment through programming and analysis of recorded mission data.
This Project Engineering Lead (PEL) role will be mainly focused on project delivery with support into the winning of future business. You will work closely with Customers (domestic and/or export), End Users and internal stakeholders to agree the optimal technical solution as well as managing the engineering deliverables through to successful completion.
Under the guidance of the Project Engineering Manager (PEM), the PEL is responsible for providing their team with clear expectations of the engineering outcomes, in terms of engineering design, schedule, budget and milestone adherence. The PEL is also responsible for the people management and personal development of their team, comprising of Systems and Software engineers , and
ensuring that engineering aspects of the projects are delivered in accordance with company Life Cycle Management processes.

What you will do?
Lead the Engineering aspects of the Project, in terms of technical quality, schedule and budget
Management of multi-disciplined engineering teams, comprising primarily of Software and Systems engineers, working in an agile methodology ensuring that roles within the teams are clearly defined
Establish and maintain good lines of communication across the Engineering IPT, to the IPT lead, functional heads and to the Customer engineering team
Working alongside the Customer to define a design solution that best fits the end user requirement within their budgetary needs
Management of Customer expectations in line with agreed solution
Ensure that the design rationale is documented
Control project configuration and change management to ensure design reuse is maximised.
Lead business winning opportunities from an engineering point of view within the IMS sector
Identifying technical risks and mitigation strategies
Support the trade off studies and Make/ Buy decisions as required, ensuring the decision points are fully documented
Travel within the UK and potentially aboard , working alongside other teams within Leonardo, Customers, End Users and Industry Partners.
What we are looking for?
Degree qualified (or equivalent) in an engineering / technical subject, ideally with relevance to a Software / Systems domain
Good schedule and budget control
Good written and verbal communication skills
Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
Strong leadership , but can also demonstrate team working skills
Knowledge of the engineering lifecycles and business process
Knowledge of Agile methodologies and how to apply them to a range of projects
It would be nice if you had:
Experience of managing projects in an Agile environment in an engineering / technical subject
Good problem solving ability
Understanding of Electronic Warfare Operational Support
