Applications are invited for this Consultant post in the Infectious Disease in NHS Highland based within Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.

This opportunity has arisen to work within NHS Highland to cover a period of maternity leave. This is a 5PA fixed term contract for a year for infectious diseases sessions and there maybe opportunities to negotiate additional sessions, particularly in acute and general medicine.

With easy access to coast, mountains and glens, Inverness in the Scottish Highlands is one of the fastest growing cities in Europe and offers an unrivalled quality of life with a huge range of leisure and sporting opportunities.

The service has recently taken on a 12-14 bedded infection unit within Raigmore hospital to take general infection patients from the north Highland health board area. This post would involve cover of the infection ward on a 1 in 8 week basis.

The department has a successful OPAT service which provides this service to patients in the full geographical area of north highland. More recently the service has taken on the follow-up of patients on complex oral antibiotic regimens (COPAT). There is a monthly Lyme MDT meeting to support the care of this complex patient group.

The post will involve ward rounds on the infection ward, ward referrals from other specialities, OPAT referrals and reviews. Outpatient clinic work will involve a twice monthly general infection clinic and a monthly HIV clinic. Associated with the HIV clinic there is a weekly HIV MDT.

This post can be adapted to suit the individual candidate. Alternatively, if you have an active research interest there is scope for additional research sessions. There may also be scope for additional involvement in the medical admissions rota and Acute Medicine.

We would be happy to receive applications from people jointly trained in either infectious diseases and general medicine or infectious diseases and microbiology.

It is essential that applicants are on the Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining their CCT at date of interview. The hours and job plan for this post can be discussed on an individual basis.
