Location – West End of London

Work pattern – Hybrid working with 3 days in the office and two days working from home

A great opportunity has become available within a learned society and charity based in the West End of London. They are looking for an experienced and proactive membership officer to assist them on an on-going basis.

General duties

  • Process applications, compile and send out welcome packs, certificates and order membership cards for new members.
  • Maintain up-to-date records on the Society’s database.
  • Send out communications (via email and post) and responding to enquiries relating to membership.
  • Process payments via cheque, cash and the virtual terminal as well as co-ordinating the direct debits at the end of each month.
  • Manage aspects of the membership benefits such as journal subscriptions by liaising with the various publishing houses.
  • Communicate with affiliated organisations and manage admin for regarding membership discounts/reciprocal agreements.
  • Co-ordinate postal mail-outs (renewals, reminders, council elections etc) – liaising with printers; collating the paperwork and data required.
  • Maintain the Membership section of the society’s website.
  • Maintain the Fellows’ website, updating text/adding documents, assisting with technical queries.
  • Use the membership database to provide accurate information for reporting purposes
  • Represent the Society to recruit new members at conferences and events.
  • Act as the secretary for the Membership Committee (setting up meetings, assisting the chair with agenda setting, taking minutes etc).
  • Assist the coordinator with lectures & event planning and execution.

Other duties:

  • Attend external meetings related to membership.
  • Assist with reception duties: answering the phone, greeting visitors, sorting post, etc.
  • Assist in the manning of public lectures and other events.
  • Assist in the preparation for internal meetings including Council meetings.
  • Act as fire warden and first aider for the ground floor of the building.
