About the Role:
We have an exciting opportunity for a 3-year Postdoctoral Fellowship within the Genomics of Inflammation and Immunity group at the Wellcome Sanger Institute (WSI), headed by Dr. Carl Anderson. We are a multidisciplinary team consisting of statistical geneticists, molecular biologists, bioinformaticians, computer scientists and clinicians. We generate large-scale genetic and genomic datasets to understand the biological basis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The translational aims of our research are to identify novel candidate drug targets and catalyse personalised medicine for IBD. There is a strong emphasis on personal development and career progression within the team.

This Postdoctoral Fellowship presents an exciting opportunity for you to use your immunology or functional genomics expertise to lead projects aimed at elucidating the cellular and molecular mechanisms underpinning IBD susceptibility, progression and drug response. We are generating single-cell RNA and/or ATAC sequencing data from gut biopsies and blood samples ascertained from thousands of IBD patients and non-IBD controls, including samples collected before and after initiation of biologic therapy. Genetic data is also available for all sample donors, enabling the mapping of genetic variants associated with gene regulation in order to draw causal insights into disease pathogenesis.

You will work closely with scientists at Open Targets partners (Bristol Myers Squibb, GSK, Pfizer, and Sanofi), making this position particularly well-suited for a self-motivated individual with good communication skills who is looking to make a personal contribution to genomic research at the interface of academia and the pharmaceutical industry.

- A PhD in a relevant subject (Immunology, functional genomics, computer science, genetics.
- Experience leading large-scale data science projects.

Salary per annum: £34,819-£43,600
