Interventional Psychiatry Service in Oxford are looking for a highly motivated skilled flexible nurse to join the team caring for patients receiving Electro-convulsive Therapy (ECT) and / or Ketamine Therapy.

The service currently provides:

  • ECT treatment on Tuesday and Friday mornings (2-10patients)
  • Ketamine treatment to Oxfordshire patients on Tuesday and Friday (3-6 patients)
  • NHS Self-funded ketamine treatment on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays (24 patients)
  • The Interventional Psychiatry Service continues to develop and expand.

    The Interventional Psychiatry suite is based at the Warneford Hospital. 

    The successful applicant will be working alongside the IPS Lead Nurse, IPS consultant, anaesthetic team, wards, community staff as well as patients and carers to ensure that patients receive an excellent standard of care.

    Main duties of the job

    The purpose of this post is to deliver high quality care for named patients receiving low dose intravenous Ketamine treatment for treatment resistant depression in line with local policy, and ECT consistent with local policy and the ECT accreditation service (ECTAS) guidelines

    The post holder will take a lead role in co-ordinating and organising as well as recruiting, screening, assessing, implementing and evaluating patients and their treatment plans for Ketamine. Also, working as part of the ECT nursing team and contributing to the development and maintenance of ECTAS standards.

    IPS Senior Staff Nurse will be responsible for the safe administration of Ketamine and ECT under the direction of the IPS doctors and aneasthetic team.

    Essential criteria

  • RMN or RGN experience of clinical mental or general health care,
  • Desirable criteria

  • Experience of research or participation in research trials.
  • Knowledge

    Essential criteria

  • Maintains up to date working knowledge and skills set within a nursing context.
  • Desirable criteria

  • Demonstrates an awareness of clinical care management of patients undergoing intravenous infusion, anesthesia, & ECT treatment.
  • Qualifications

  • Registered Mental or Registered General Nurse
  • Desirable criteria

  • Phlebotomy trained
