Principal Systems Engineer Acoustic Programmes

My client is looking for a Principal Systems Engineer to join the Maritime Test, Evaluation, Training and Tactics team and lead the technical activities to integrate new and existing noise ranging systems at the Range facilities at BUTEC in Scotland, as well as providing advice that will directly impact defence operations.

The role would suit systems engineers with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Systems engineering best practice in line with ISO
  • System architecture and design
  • Underwater hardware
  • Acoustic signal processing
  • Test and integration or range activities
  • Equipment delivery
  • Equipment calibration and test
  • What Will I Be Doing?

  • Definition and delivery of technical projects through-life, working effectively with broader stakeholders and project management, guiding a technical team to success.
  • Generate systems engineering deliverables that meet the needs of multiple projects supporting the UK’s ranging capability under the LTPA programme
  • Provide direction and recommendations relating to technical risks and opportunities, owning actions, solutions and future work streams.
  • Coordinate multi-stakeholder analysis into reports and presentations for delivery to customers and industry partners.
  • Understand and apply relevant regulatory, safety and technical standards, integrating required compliance and governance activity into delivery work.
  • Support the engineering teams to support requirements through to acceptance in line with the system architecture.

  • Key Accountabilities

  • Working closely with the project manager to plan and deliver (generally through a team) all the technical/engineering activities required to meet project objectives
  • Responsible for devising and delivering the technical solution using sound technical, management and leadership skills such as systems engineering management and project management
  • Co-ordinates the high-level engineering activities as applicable to systems
  • Addresses enterprise and life cycle considerations
  • Engages with the customer and other collaborating organisations, including in the devising of plans, review of progress, the delivery of the resultant system, and any subsequent support activities
  • Internal and external focal point of contact for the project on all technical/engineering aspects and assurance
  • Managing the technical risk and opportunities on behalf of the project
  • Ensuring that the system meets appropriate regulatory, legal, safety and other engineering requirements and standards
  • Responsible for directing and managing the output of assigned junior systems engineers (of potentially different specialisms)
