    The Addleshaw Goddard data team is a large UK wide team of data protection specialists supporting blue chip, FTSE and international clients on a full spectrum of data compliance, contractual and advisory matters. We pride ourselves on a providing simple, pragmatic advice in this complex and fast paced area of the law. As a team, we have a collegiate and collaborative approach, driven by knowledge and enthusiasm for our specialist area. The team acts for clients across multiple sectors and is particularly well known for its work in retail, tech, financial services and healthcare. key clients include HSBC, Asda Stores and Boohoo Group. 

    The practice handles both contentious and non-contentious work, domestically and internationally, and takes a lead role in developing tech based data solutions with our award winning legal technology team.

    PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

    We are looking for a Data Protection Knowledge Lawyer to support our Data Protection Team. This role will be based outside of London from either our Manchester, Edinburgh or Aberdeen office. This role will support our internal fee-earners through research, training and know-how and therefore day to day you will work directly with the partners and fee earners in the Commercial team focussing on the team priorities and their support requirements.

    The role is client facing as we see the knowledge role as one of the key ways in which we engage with clients and targets.

    For this role we welcome applications from experienced Data Protection Lawyers interested in Knowledge Lawyer opportunities or experienced Knowledge Lawyers.

    DUTIES

    As a Knowledge Lawyer in the team, you can expect to:

  • Act in an advisory capacity in supporting colleagues and clients with complex legal  research queries, helping them develop the skills to find answers for themselves and help tailor advice to a client’s specific needs.
  • Find effective ways to update colleagues and clients on  legal developments in an engaging and thought provoking manner including the development of briefings, thought leadership and bespoke horizon scanning solutions.
  • Organise and delivers regular  training on relevant legal topics for clients (both value add and fee-earning) and colleagues.
  • Organise personal and team contributions to internal and client knowledge . For example, updating precedents, authoring relevant know-how, deals done / experience databases, and managing collaboration tools and extranets.
  • Developing matter-based and generic checklists, how to guides, practice notes and other forms of formal know-how, as appropriate
  • Identify and delivers  innovative approaches to managing and sharing knowledge for the benefit of colleagues and clients. For example, using new technologies such as artificial intelligence / machine learning software.
  • Network internally and externally to build personal profile and reputation as a subject matter expert, develop effective working relationships that help get things done, and brings back best practice from other Departments, Divisions and firms which is subsequently implemented in their own team
  • Involvement in the continuous  development of technology in the provision of our legal services
  • Contribute to firmwide knowledge management through the wider knowledge lawyer group
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

    Our ideal applicant will require the following skills and experience:

  • Be an experienced Data Protection Lawyer with a minimum of 5 years post qualification experience seeking a change in direction OR a current PSL with experience of working in a Data Protection focused role.
  • Have a deep interest in Commercial law
  • Ability to work closely with partners and associates and quickly gain their confidence
  • Have excellent interpersonal, drafting and writing skills
  • Be both proactive and well organised
  • Have good project management skills
  • Have excellent presentation and communication skills to communicate complex legal concepts effectively and simply
  • Be prepared to work as part of a highly-motivated and hard-working team often working to tight deadlines
