The vision for the Pharmacy & Medicines service is to deliver clinically led, person-centred services to ensure patients across Lothian get the best from their medicines and pharmacy services. We are focused on creating an environment where each person in the team has the opportunity to flourish, develop and make best use of their skills.

The Medicines Management Team are a multi-professional team leading on medicines governance and guidance across NHS Lothian. This is an exciting time for the team as we collaborate with colleagues in NHS Fife and NHS Borders to create the East Region Formulary; the first of its kind in Scotland.

The key responsibilities for this post will be to support the ongoing work to maintain and develop the formulary within our resources. The post holder will maintain formulary support systems which are aligned to general practice prescribing. They will work closely with the Formulary Pharmacist, working in partnership with clinical experts and administrative colleagues. We will support the post holder with the necessary training for the software systems used in this work.

Our clinically led, person-centred services may incorporate clinical, weekend and on-call commitments as part of our ongoing pharmacy and medicines service redesign.

We are looking for a highly organised and self-motivated team worker with excellent communication skills to join the pharmacy team delivering the highest quality pharmacy services across NHS Lothian. The post holder will contribute to the development and delivery of these services in the face of emerging challenges around medicines management.

Candidates must have a Master of Pharmacy Degree or equivalent, must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), and should have completed the Post-Registration Foundation Programme or equivalent competency.

Ideally, candidates will have experience pro-actively influencing prescribing practices in conjunction with medicines governance process and procedure while in a healthcare environment. They will have gained experience working with prescribing professionals using their knowledge and skills to improve patient care, promote optimal outcomes from medicines and ensure medicines are managed safely and effectively.
