Job overview

A 12 month Secondment opportunity has arisen within the South Oxon Adult Mental Health Team (AMHT) based in Abingdon. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is considering moving into the community setting. This is a position for either a newly qualified or more experienced Occupational Therapist with Mental Health experience. 

The appointed candidate will be supported to develop their confidence and transferable skills in the community setting. The AMHT leadership team offer regular clinical and management supervision, alongside informal support on a daily basis.

The role will be primarily based in Abingdon which is currently central to the development of the local mental health hub, which is due to become operational in the Autumn. This is an exciting time to be involved in the development of the local community mental health framework and improving outcomes for people in the local community who have needs that are not always best met by primary or secondary care. 

Main duties of the job

The AMHT works with adults of working ag from 18-65 years who are experiencing mental illness.

You will be expected (depending upon experience): 

  • To manage a caseload of patients with a range of mental health complexities.
  • To assess a patient’s mental state using a range of assessment skills and standardised tools
  • To offer interventions to your patient using a range of professional and psychosocial interventions. 
  • To assess and manage risk and support patients through crises. 
  • To support the duty and triage function of the team, alongside conducting risk assessments and sign posting where relevant.
  • Attend meetings both within the team and external services in order to support your patients needs. 
  • To engage in continuing professional development to ensure your skills are up to date and you are offering your patients evidence-based interventions.

    You will need to be organised, flexible and committed to delivering the highest possible care to our client group. Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as good lT skills are essential. You will need to be able to travel to undertake work and have the capacity to carry the equipment relative to your post. 

    We are looking for full and part time staff. Core working hours are Monday-Friday 09:00-17:00 with weekend shifts every 6 weeks.

    Education and Training

    Essential criteria

  • Professional Qualification (Degree or equivalent) Registered Nurse, Occupational Therapist
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) portfolio
  • Desirable criteria

  • Post graduate education specifically relating to client group (Post basic qualification in community care/ research awareness/ management)
  • Occupational Experience

    Essential criteria

  • To have highly extensive experience minimum which should include community and working with mental health.
  • To have experience of working within a multidisciplinary team

  • To be IT literate
  • Excellent written and verbal English
  • You will need to be able to travel to undertake work and have the capacity to carry the equipment relative to the post.
