About the role

Here at Babcock International we are looking to recruit a number of Marine Engineering Mechanical Fitters to join our Fleet Engineering department.

You will work within a team which is responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, testing and commissioning activities on specialist high pressure / low pressure air systems and hydraulic systems.

Working on board submarines and in workshop environments, you will carry out scheduled maintenance and will diagnose and repair mechanical faults, ensuring that all activities are undertaken in accordance with departmental procedures and Health & Safety legislation.

You must be comfortable working in confined spaces.

Roles available at this time are split across dayshifts and a 21 day shift pattern – we have 5 of each available at this time.

Dayshift working hours are 36 hours per week, Mon-Fri with early finish on a Friday

Type example of 21 days shift pattern is as follows –
Each working shift is 12 hours. Day shifts at 08:00 – 20:15 hours, night shifts are 20:00 – 08:15 hours.
* Day 1(Tue), 2 (Wed) & 3(Thu): 20:00 – 0815
* Day 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10 rest days but can volunteer for overtime, subject to working time directive
* Day 11 (Fri), 12 (Sat), 13 (Sun) & 14 (Mon): 20:00 – 0815
* Day 15, 16, 17 & 18 rest days but can volunteer for overtime, subject to working time directive
* Day 19 (Sat) & 20 (Sun): 08:00 – 20:15
* Day 21 rest day

What do I need to do the role?
You will have demonstrable previous experience in Mechanical Fitter roles, preferably gained within a Marine Engineering environment working with high pressure / low pressure air systems and hydraulic systems along with a recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship qualified to SVQ Level 3 (or NVQ and C&G equivalent) or HNC and above in a Mechanical/Marine engineering discipline with relevant work experience.

Experience of repairing and maintaining complex valve systems, Submarine / Ship tag-out and operating procedures, maintenance technical instructions, nuclear procedures and acceptance standards and be advantageous.

You will demonstrate attention to detail and a focus on producing high-quality work to meet rigorous acceptance standards. You will have experience of Maintenance Procedures, Risk, and COSHH assessments and Safe Systems of Work with excellent team working and interpersonal skills.

This role may include a shift pattern and a shift disturbance allowance above the salary stated.

This role is based at HM Naval Base Clyde, located 6 miles north of Helensburgh in the West of Scotland. We are well placed for commuter links to Glasgow and the wider region, with easy access for car and public transport.

You must be eligible to gain and maintain UK SC level security clearance for this role
