Main duties of the job

Responsible for carrying out comprehensive mental health assessments with service users in the community. Identify service user needs and make recommendations for services needed.

Provide evidence based therapeutic interventions for people presenting with common mental health problems, consistent with NMC Codes of Practice or appropriate governing body, and in line with NSF guidelines and Health Board policies and procedures. 

Assess, Plan and Provide relevant interventions in the treatment of service user who meet the Primary Care criteria, undertaking principles of cognitive behavioural therapy, depending on the individual needs of service user.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • NMC registered MH Nurse or other appropriate professional qualification such as social work or occupational therapist
  • Evidence of personal and clinical development
  • Experience

  • Post registration experience in a Community Mental Health setting and multi-disciplinary work.
  • Experience working within a relevant multi-disciplinary clinical area working at post graduate level.

  • Supervisory experience

  • Excellent knowledge of Mental Health
  • Knowledge and skills to apply the fundamental principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Current knowledge and ability to apply developments within serious mental illness within own practice, consent, data protection, patient confidentiality, risk management, health and safety issues
  • Detailed knowledge of Child Protection (Level 3) and POVA issues
  • Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation
  • Good understanding of the National Service Framework and its impact on clients, carers and staff.
