About our Team

Technology Excellence in Technology, Infrastructure and Operations (TIO) focuses on bringing incremental improvements and infrastructural change across technology. Focused on the Academic and Government area of Elsevier, you will collaborate and leverage knowledge and experience with Health, Corporate, and Digital Business Services.

About the Role

The TechX Operational Improvement role is focused in our Academic and Government (A&G) Business unit. You will bring collaborative thought leadership and support to our operational teams. Your role will help us bring best practices and improvements to our use of AWS and associated cloud technologies. You will bring FinOps leadership to the table and help our Operation managers maximise the value from their AWS budget.

You will support our transformation to a modern software and analytics company by bringing positive change to our flagship products.

You will use your Operational experience and data to identify opportunities for improvements, savings, and automation. You will support the VP of A&G Operations by building relationships with Development and Product partners. You will be responsible for driving a number of change programs annually.

Responsibilities

• Ensuring appropriate reporting of the health state of the A&G Technology products

• Executing initiatives to effectively control cost, optimise security, reliability, and availability

• Finding creative ways to encourage high performance, and working with teams to remove barriers to their success

• Encouraging new ideas from teams to foster improvements through innovations, empowering and engaging them in strategic decisions

• Supporting the goal to transition to Site Reliability Engineering practices, and platform-focused technologies

Requirements

• Show knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud environments and services

• Show knowledge of software engineering from development, CI/CD pipeline engineering, security best practices to agile methodologies

• Be a natural communicator, with an ability to engage, influence stakeholders and present technical content to a range of audiences

• Have great problem-solving skills, and the ability to bring together teams to collaborate in resolving incidents

• Think critically and creatively, determine appropriate resources for the resolution of problems, and have organizational and planning skills
