We are looking for an experienced individual in the Stoke-on-Trent area who have an interest and passion in making a difference in students lives through the promotion and delivery of inclusive support in higher education.

You will be working on a temporary basis until the End of December as student inclusion adviser. Your role will include supporting the Inclusion Manager in delivering their Inclusion Strategy by supporting colleagues with, complex cases, the delivery of training, guidance and advice on access, inclusion and the Equality Act 2010 to colleagues within the institution.

You will work with the inclusion team to assist the inclusion manager in the publication, promotion and delivery of inclusive support and administration within the higher education setting.

Main responsibilities:

– To work with the Student Inclusion Manager in the further development and co-ordination of a comprehensive and accessible advisory and support service for students with additional needs and diverse underrepresented student groups to support an inclusive community.

– Co-ordination of personal and academic support required by disabled students with Specific Learning Difficulties, Autism, physical needs and mental health needs, including those with complex support needs to ensure their successful integration into the HE learning environment.

– Working as a member of the Inclusion team to ensure that students’ assessed support needs are met in collaboration with academic and other higher education services staff and meet the ‘reasonable adjustments’ required within the Equality Act of 2010.

– Liaison with appropriate external agencies to facilitate access to additional support and advice for students, including external funding providers and advise and support students through the application process for DSA and SFE funding support, preparing, and submitting paperwork for Assessment Centres as required.

– Involvement in regular student, support worker and academic liaison to ensure support strategies continue to be effective and achievable, including supporting Fitness to Study meetings and continue to promote equality of opportunity for students.

– You will support campaigns, events and activities promoting information, advice, and support for students, for example transition events, regular campaigns that sit within the student journey.

– Answering day-to-day enquiries from students, student support workers, academics, and professional service colleagues about student specific support requirements/entitlements.

Experience:

– Knowledge on the Equality act 2010

– Familarity with the Disabled Students Allowances (DSA’s) process

– Background in working with students in an education setting and how inclusion needs may impact a student’s experience and access to learning and what reasonable adjustments that may need to be put in place to support with this.

– A background with working with students with disabilities.
