The Institute of Liver Studies, King’s College Hospital are seeking to appoint to several Clinical Research Fellows posts.
These posts are offered as either 6 months or 1 year posts and are designed to offer either 100% clinical service provision or a 50:50 split between the Clinical Hepatology Service Provision/ Training and Clinical Research. The aim of these posts is to allow the successful applicants to undertake a part-time clinical or laboratory research project alongside clinical hepatology to acquire pilot data that will facilitate an application for Research Council Funding such as MRC or NIHR Doctoral Fellowships to enable the undertaking of a MD/PhD. This post is ideal for individuals who are mid-way through their Specialist Training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. The exact job plan could be individualised to a successful candidates’ needs.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be involved in fixed clinical commitments which would be determined by both their clinical training needs and the service requirements of the Institute.

Job responsibilities
The post holder may wish to participate in the liver on-call and emergency gastrointestinal bleeding on call rota on a 1 in 7 basis if they are trained and JAG accredited in upper gastrointestinal endoscopy.
There is an option for the trainee to join the out of hours specialist hepatology and endoscopy rota if suitably qualified following a period of induction. The trainee will always have access to Consultant support during on call periods. The on call rota (1 in 7) will involve taking part in the specialist hepatology rota and does not involve any commitment to acute general medicine.
The trainee will also need to provide occasional ward cover during the day when required and there will be an element of administrative duties.
