Abingdon and Witney College are an award-winning Further Education college based in Oxfordshire offering vocational qualifications aimed at developing the skills for students to be able to live and work independently. The SEND team is central to scaffolding the support needs of learners with special educational needs and/or disabilities to ensure that every they can achieve their full potential.

As part of our growth strategy, we are recruiting for a part time physiotherapist, a new position within our SEND specialist team to lead, plan and deliver timely and appropriate therapy for students with physiotherapy provision as specified in their Education and Health Care Plan across all campuses.

This role requires a physiotherapist that can demonstrate a sound knowledge and use of a wide range of therapy methods and interventions for young people with autism, learning disabilities and other special educational needs. This should include direct therapy, hydrotherapy, work in the classroom co-delivering alongside teaching staff, the development of whole college approaches, as well as a focus on developing preparation for adulthood skills. Communication with students, parents and key stakeholders will be central to achievement as will training and supporting educational staff on physiotherapy methods and interventions and effectively motivating students and staff to engage with the programmes through providing specialist advice. Accountability and responsibility for devising, developing, delivering, and updating individualised therapy/support plans with peer support and supervision is essential.

Candidates should have a relevant physiotherapy degree and be a registered member of the HCPC with experience. Experience of a range of complex neurological conditions and working closely with the MDT within an education setting, with families and the wider MDT including community services, acute care, equipment reps etc. Knowledge and experience of assessing for, setting up and reviewing specialist standing and walking equipment for young people/adults, be familiar with 24-hour postural management plans and hydrotherapy experience, setting up/reviewing hydrotherapy programmes.
