I have an exciting role with Leicestershire Police for a part-time (18.5 hours a week) Evidential Property Officer. This role will ensure the efficient and effective storage, review and disposal of all items of property in accordance with Force Policies and Procedures and provide a high quality of service to internal and external customers. The role will be subject to MV vetting which will require applicants to have 5 years continuous residency in the UK.
Responsibilities include:
To receive and administer all items of Evidential and Found Property such as dry and wet forensics, firearms, drugs and cash/valuables.
To ensure all items of Evidential and Found Property are stored in a secure Temporary or Main Evidential Property Store, and in a correct manner according to Force Procedures.
Adhere to organisational procedures, all pertinent training and health and safety policies at all times such as the use of PPE
To administer the Property Management System, completing timely reviews, recording decisions and updating the records accurately, including all fielded data for Home Office returns.
Ensure that the review of all exhibits has been completed by the responsible officer, providing the retention or disposal dates in accordance with legislation.
To retrieve property from storage for investigative purposes as and when required, ensuring the continuity is recorded. This is to include all forensic submissions.
To handle large, heavy items using the appropriate equipment provided, complying within H&S procedures, risk assessments and manual handling guidance.
To complete and record regular maintenance checks of all Force issued equipment such as the MWEP and Alligator Shear.
To carry out audits at the required times and to resolve any discrepancies.
Maintain records and where appropriate, issue documents; letters, receipts, ensuring all audit trails are maintained and the integrity of exhibit remains intact.
To undertake tasks in accordance with the Property department’s working practices, policies and procedures.
To maintain integrity, security and continuity of all exhibits received into the unit and record/escalate any anomalies with the labelling, continuity or packaging.
To manage and complete the physical disposal of property in accordance with Force Policy such as Return to Owner, income generation, etc.
Ability to hold a position of trust where security of stock and valuables has to be maintained at all times.
To use the mechanical and non-mechanical equipment in the execution of certain duties, such as the use of the Alligator Shear, MEWP and ladders, adhering to all risk assessment, H&S procedures and PPE requirements.
To drive police vehicles in accordance with Police standards and policies, ensuring that the physical movement of material is completed using all PPE provided such as Airwaves and BWV.
To liaise with a wide variety of people from internal and external partners relating to property matters and provide support and training where necessary.
Respond to tasks, mail, emails and telephone queries to assist Police personnel and members of the public.
Liaise with external agencies such as auction houses, waste disposal companies to arrange services with them.
Develop a professional relationship with them as a representative of Leicestershire Police.
Attend 1-1’s and departmental meetings as required.
Administration:
Use the Property Management system to compile reports and lists of property for use within the team and for dissemination to partners ensuring that they comply with Data GDPR legislation.
Provide statistical and analytical information when required by line management.
To ensure that all records are retained and disposed of in accordance with legislation such as MoPI, Police Property Act and GDPR.
Your experience will include:
Expected to handle items that could pose a risk to self and others such as Firearms, Drugs, hazardous or sensitive and potentially distressing property.
To ensure the security of the stores is maintained at all times.
Undertake such other duties commensurate with the post as may be required for the safe and effective performance of the service provided by the EPAT.
To participate in the Force PDR process and take responsibility for identifying your own professional and career development needs.
Be flexible in terms of working location and be prepared to work temporarily at other locations within the Force area.
To assist with operational contingency where necessary, may be required to support the Evidential Property Courier role with the collection and delivery of items.
There is a requirement to wear a uniform and PPE which will be provided.
Must hold a full driving licence and be prepared to use own car for business purposes
To successfully pass the Police Basic Driving Assessment/NCALT package.
Be able to work at heights, and successfully pass essential training courses such as shearer, manual handling and MEWP training
