We are looking for an enthusiastic Clinical / Counselling Psychologist to play a key role in developing, supervising, and delivering a service that aims to address an identified gap between primary and secondary care services.

CPFT received additional funding after being chosen by NHS England as one of the national Exemplar pilot sites for the redesign and transformation of primary and community mental health care. The goal of this transformation project is to develop and deliver a new service paradigm that seeks to provide a more seamless pathway of mental health care and eliminate current gaps between services.

The Clinical / Counselling Psychologist will have a particular interest in Complex PTSD and be responsible for contributing to the delivery of services for people in Cambridge who have experienced multiple traumatic events, including severe sexual, physical and emotional abuse and violence in childhood and / or adulthood. The post holder will also contribute fully to the clinical, professional, and strategic aims of the service as a senior member of the team.

Main duties of the job

You will work alongside a team manager, 8b clinical psychologist, 5 clinical associate psychologist (CAP) trainees, an Assistant Psychologist and 4 support workers.

You will be expected to carry out trauma informed psychological formulations with service users to determine appropriate treatment pathways.

You will deliver a range of therapeutic groups that draw on trauma stabilisation, ACT, schema therapy, DBT and CFT.

You will also supervise CAP trainees and support workers delivering short term CBT based interventions. There will be opportunities to develop other group and individual interventions / pathways and to be involved in service evaluation. Longer term, there are opportunities to support the development of an evidence based psychological treatment pathway for people living with the consequences of multiple and repeated traumas (e.g. EMDR/ trauma focused CBT).

The post holder will have opportunities to support the development of a new Masters programme at the University of East Anglia for the new CAP role. There are also opportunities to teach on the CAP course, get involved in the CAP trailblazer group and receive supervision training.
