The Role

There is one (1) position available currently, as an  Independent Non-Executive Finance & Risk Director  and this is to fill a vacancy. The term of appointment is up to 1st January 2024 initially. Existing directors can then seek reappointment for the next three-year term (there is a limit of three terms of three years). 

Independent Directors should not already be associated with the London FA in any way, either as a London FA Council or general member. For this role, we are looking for an individual who is a qualified accountant and has a strong financial background at a senior level. We are also looking for someone who has significant commercial acumen and could support London FA to secure additional investment from a commercial partner(s). You will balance a clear grasp of financial matters and the oversight of the organisation’s financial and risk management, alongside generating leads and supporting the CEO to secure additional commercial investment.

Key Accountabilities

  • Constructively check, challenge and support the development of the London FA’s strategy.
  • Support the development of plans and programmes that will deliver the strategy.
  • Approve the annual operating and delivery plan.
  • Be a positive ambassador for football in London, representing the London FA.
  • Act as a positive voice for the work of the London FA with the media.
  • Seek to expand public awareness of the work of the London FA.
  • Act as strategic adviser to the Board and staffing team on football.
  • Regularly review the financial performance of the organisation and report to the Board.
  • Add value to the Senior Executive Team acting as a subject matter expert and mentor in area of expertise.

    What we are looking for

  • A depth of knowledge gained through experience in their specialist football activity.
  • Able to understand, communicate and champion the needs of the diverse football community in London
  • An accountant and experienced senior leader from a financial / risk management role where advising non-financial leaders is key to corporate success and sustainability. 
  • Has significant commercial experience and acumen. Can support the CEO to develop and deliver a commercial strategy to attract new commercial partners to the business.
  • A thought leader within their subject, able to communicate and advise on best practice approaches.
