JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • As Manager of Compliance for the Office of Research Administration (ORA), facilitates the process for the investigation of allegations for general research issues and Research Misconduct cases from the point of the complaint to the determination of findings and creation of a corrective action plan.
  • During the assessment phase, conducts interviews with Respondents, Complainants, and others as needed.
  • Drafts a memoranda of work and issues for the RIO.
  • Gives Research Misconduct presentations to new Research Coordinators.
  • Participates in Policy Review for improving the Research Misconduct policy process.
  • Creates templates for the Research Misconduct process.
  • Controlled Substance and Dangerous Drug Compliance: Identifies compliance risks in this area and shares with Director and AVP for Research.
  • Implements and administers compliance initiatives, including input when developing policies, monitoring labs through inspections and follow-ups to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal regulations, standard operating procedures, training materials, and content for in-person and online educational materials.
  • On behalf of ORIC, interfaces with government agencies (DEA, Georgia Board of Pharmacy, and Georgia Drugs and Narcotics Agency) to clarify researchers’ questions on compliance issues and acts as a go-between for researchers and agents.
  • Reviews Agreements for Pharmacy drug issues generally involving the Conflicts of Interest Office, the IACUC, and the Office of General Counsel.
  • Works on the compliance process for stolen or lost drugs, creating written reports that include findings and suggested corrective actions for investigations related to Pharmacy Drugs and animal research, including other recommendations as appropriate.
  • Proactively formulates and assists with creating corrective actions in collaboration with colleges/departments, researchers, students, members of the compliance team, and other responsible parties within the university.
  • Compliance Support for ORA Offices: As part of a team, provides support to labs, the IACUC, IBC and Radiation Safety in maintaining compliance with institutional, state, federal, and international regulations; responds to compliance inquiries and correspondence.
  • Participates in regulatory site visits and inspections (e.g., IACUC, USDA, AAALAC, etc.).
  • Facilitates identifying research compliance risks within units, alerting unit leaders to those risks, and guiding strategies to minimize them.
  • As part of a team, supports institution-wide initiatives to prevent, detect, and respond appropriately to research compliance risks.
  • Guidance to DAR/Yerkes Veterinary Staff: Provides guidance to investigators, and Emory staff and faculty regarding federal and state pharmacy regulations and veterinary regulations and coordinates with the Office of General Counsel for legal questions.
  • As part of a team, identifies compliance risks and works with vet staff to mitigate them.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, a science or healthcare discipline or a related field and five years of legal or compliance work experience.
  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • An understanding of federal and state regulations pertaining to the operation and the administration of compliance programs, including regulations regarding governmental funding, human subjects’ research, animal research, safety regulations, and regulations governing the operations of institutions of higher education.
