What is the Role?

Due to the ongoing growth and exciting developments within our SSEN Transmission business, we are looking for two Senior Commercial Solicitors to join our in-house legal team. 

These roles will provide a diversity of legal work, the opportunity to build strong stakeholder relationships within our organisation and to develop knowledge and understanding of the business and the sector in which it operates. Legal work will include drafting and negotiation of commercial agreements including construction contracts for transmission infrastructure projects, the provision of procurement advice and a requirement to deliver pragmatic advice on a range of commercial issues that may impact our business taking into account the regulatory framework and wider commercial drivers.

Your key responsibilities will include:-

– Provision of legal advice and support to key business stakeholders in a clear and concise manner regarding the interpretation of legislation, industry documents and contracts to enable the business to understand their rights, obligations, liabilities and risk, and assist in forming strategies to maximise opportunities, minimise risk and ensure compliance.

– Collaborating with colleagues across the business such as regulation, procurement, project delivery, asset management and operations.

– Engaging directly with our regulator regarding the development and delivery of strategic infrastructure projects.

– Acting as the SME on key projects, advising on a variety of commercial contracts and agreements.

– Take accountability for your own personal development, but also operate as a more experienced member of the team offering support, guidance, training and mentorship to more junior colleagues.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role you will require the following;

– A qualified solicitor in Scotland or England and Wales with relevant commercial PQE of around 4 years or more.

– The ability to work on your own and within a team with the desire and commitment to further your learning and development.

– Strong negotiation, drafting, communication and interpersonal skills and a desire to work in-house as part of a key business support function are essential for this role.

– An ability to build strong working relations with Clients, stakeholders, external Legal Counsel and the wider SSE Legal team.

– Periodic travel between our offices throughout the UK is expected.
