Senior Clinical Scientist (Clinical Biochemist) – Band 7

The Clinical Biochemistry Department at Kettering General Hospital have a vacancy for a full time Clinical Scientist (Band 7)

We are seeking an HCPC registered Clinical Biochemist to join our friendly team in the biochemistry department. You will be required to support activities such as quality management, compliance with ISO standards and service development, as well as participating in the duty biochemist rota, clinical liaison, research and development, and audit activities.

The biochemistry department has close connections with many of the clinical specialities within the Trust but particularly Endocrinology and Paediatrics. We have an excellent history of training Clinical Scientists to FRCPath level. Applicants should be HCPC registered Clinical Scientists, have an MSc or equivalent in Clinical Biochemistry, and be actively working towards completion of FRCPath. Applications will be considered from candidates working towards HCPC registration.

Main duties of the job

To assist the Consultant Clinical Biochemist in the scientific management of the biochemistry service.

To provide clinical advice on all aspects of Clinical Biochemistry, interpretation of results and participate in the general clinical support rota.

To maintain an up-to-date knowledge in procedures associated with clinical biochemistry in order in order to give scientific and clinical advice.

To communicate verbally and in written reports the results of scientific investigations to clinicians and other healthcare professionals.

Working for our organisation

The department currently holds full UKAS accreditation, and is equipped with Roche Cobas 8000 analysers, tracked to the latest C8100 pre-analytics system. Areas of specialist interest within the department include HPLC, point of care testing and fetal anomaly screening.

    If you need to have a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check, as a requirement of the role, you will be required to repay the cost of obtaining a DBS check (£50) and this amount will be reclaimed from your first salary. From 1st February 2019 all new starters to the Trust are required to join the DBS update service as per Trust DBS Re-checking Policy which has an annual cost of £13. New employees who do not join the update service will be required to pay £50 for a new DBS check in 3 years time.

    Please note that news starters with KGH are subject to a six month probationary period.
