PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION

To work as part of a team in the provision of comprehensive support functions to the Cemetery Service, ensuring the provision of continuous administrative processes that deliver a high quality, customer focused burial and cremation service.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties at Scale 6

  • Undertake cemetery, cremation and memorial administration tasks ensuring all work processes and procedures are followed.
  • Provide a customer reception service and telephone answering service in the main office or other location as directed.
  • Advise customers on all aspects of cemetery, cremation and memorial enquiries including burial rights, grants, permits, cemetery and crematorium regulations and codes of practice.
  • Liaise with members of the public and funeral directors in the arrangements for grave selections, memorial appointments and the disposal of cremated remains.
  • Undertake data inputting using bespoke cemetery and crematorium software,  Microsoft office packages such as word and excel and corporate systems.
  • Assist in the sale of all memorial types to customers and memorial sales development.
  • Carry out filing and maintenance of information-recording systems, compile statistics and performance figures and  complete financial records and returns.
  • Answer general correspondence where appropriate and ensure effective responses to all enquiries.
  • Work as part of a team in a busy office and demonstrate good communication skills.
  • Undertake chapel duties when required. 
  • Assist the public with genealogical enquiries and family history searches in writing and when personal visits to the office are made.
  • Carry out financial transactions and processes as required. 
  • Ensure all music and organist requests for services are processed to a given deadline
  • Provide administrative support for all matters relating to memorial infringements and memorial regulation enforcement.   
  • Provide administrative support for all matters relating to memorial safety.

  • Use and assist others in the use of information technology systems to carry out duties in the most efficient and effective manner.

Duties at SO1

  • Meet with families and assist them in selecting a memorial in accordance with their needs.
  • Assist in selling cemetery and cremation memorials such as vaults, mausoleum and sanctums and  follow up any income opportunities that may arise from memorial enquiries
  • Undertake tasks relating to enforcing memorial regulations policy across all sites, including meeting face to face with families that are affected. 
  • Carry out all administration relating to memorial infringements ensuring records are kept updated, actions documented and areas monitored. 
  • Coordinate with the cemetery operations team in the removal of infringements and the reinstatement of the grounds afterwards. 
  • Ability to drive .
