The Assisted Conception Unit situated within Ninewells Hospital, Dundee are looking for an Andrologist to join our laboratory team. This is a chance to join an exciting and dynamic field of biology. The unit performs approximately 400 cycles of IVF / ICSI and 250 frozen cycles per year and is the main Diagnostic Andrology service for Tayside. Ninewells Hospital is the largest hospital in the area and is closely linked to Dundee University and Medical School. The post-holder will work within a multidisciplinary team of medical staff, nursing staff, laboratory staff, clinical support workers, administration and counsellors.
We are looking for Andrologist to participate in all andrological laboratory procedures including primary care referral for diagnostic semen analysis, post vasectomy semen assessment, cryopreservation of sperm, including storage as part of an Oncology service and banking of donor sperm. The Andrologist will also take part in aspects of semen analysis and preparation for clinical treatment (IUI, IVF, ICSI including the preparation of surgically recovered sperm).
The Andrologist is expected to work to internal and external quality standards including participation in an external quality assurance scheme (NEQAS). The Andrologist will take an active part in preparing for internal and external audits and inspections.
The Andrologist will ensure the receipt and processing of samples as dictated in a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), and will accurately enter results into a dedicated lab-based computer system. The post involves establishing patient and sample identification, and the completion of detailed and accurate records of all laboratory activities.
Applicants must have excellent organisational skills and interpersonal skills, to fulfil this role. They must be flexible, have the ability to adapt to change and be committed to providing a high standard of patient care.
Requires a minimum of BSc Hon 2.1 in a biological / medical subject.
