The Council is looking to strengthen our Audit Committee. We are looking for an experienced senior leader, ideally with a strong background in finance, audit, risk, or governance. We have a local code of corporate governance that sets out the principles we hold ourselves to. The Audit Committee plays a key role in ensuring that these principles are lived up to.

The purpose of the role is to provide an independent voice on the Committee. Free from political or sectional interest to challenge and support the Council to deliver the highest possible standards of governance. This role will be appointed for four years and provide continuity as the elected members of the committee change with the electoral cycle.

This role will work collaboratively with elected Members of the Committee, the senior leadership team of the Council and stakeholders to provide assurance to the Council that it is upholding the highest standards of good governance.

The Committee meets five times a year in the evenings. Meetings usually take place in February, June, July, September, November. They are usually held at the Council Offices, Shute End, Wokingham and start at 7pm. They last approximately 2 hours. Time will also be needed prior to each meeting for preparation. The role is for approximately 14 hours a year. An allowance of £1,000 is paid plus reasonable expenses.
