Professional Standards Practitioner – Band 7 – 37.5 hours 

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Corporate Nursing and Integrated Governance Unit for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Professional Standards Practitioner. You will require commitment, passion and motivation in order to support the team in delivery of high quality care. You will also need vision and excellent organisational skills. To succeed in the role you will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enable you to work with varying groups including managers, clinicians and administrative colleagues as well as patients, carers and key stakeholders across the health and social care community. You will need to be able to demonstrate that you can lead and motivate a team alongside excellent time management skills as you will need to balance the demands of a very busy workload.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will ensure that there is a continuous focus on the improvement of patient safety and experience. This post holder will be responsible and accountable for the quality assurance and compliance work programme. They will ensure that there is day to day oversight and scrutiny of the organisational wide processes and systems to effectively collate and act upon clinical quality assurance and compliance information including national guidance, regulatory and statutory standards, and Trust policy and through the Trust Accreditation Scheme. They will provide professional nursing advice and leadership for the ICFT. 

In conjunction with the Head of Nursing Professional Standards, the post holder will lead on the development and implementation of a comprehensive integrated approach to achieve professional & quality standards across the organisation.

    Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Work alongside Matrons, Heads of Nursing and Divisional management teams to provide assurance around compliance with regulatory and internal standards of care which includes CQC standards.
  • Support the implementation and continued management of the quality assurance measures and accreditation programme in place within the Trust
  • Ensure that teams are informed, trained and developed to provide a positive patient experience.
  • Make a proactive contribution to planning for future service developments.
  • Actively promote and facilitate the development of a proactive patient safety, quality and improvement culture throughout the organisation.
  • Ensure that there is day to day oversight and scrutiny of the organisational wide processes and systems to effectively collate and act upon clinical quality assurance and compliance information including national guidance, regulatory and statutory standards, and Trust policy and through the Trust Accreditation Scheme. 
  • Provide professional nursing advice and leadership for the ICFT.
  • If appropriate, engage in clinical practice at agreed intervals to maintain clinical practice and credibility within the role acting as a role model in the delivery of expert patient care.
  • Contribute to the development of competency frameworks
  • Lead on the development of key initiatives to improve and develop standards of patient care in clinical practice e.g. through the Trust accreditation program, development of clinical champion networks, improvement of care pathways, getting ahead of harm programme
  • Develop effective and comprehensive professional network which ensure the continuing development of innovative practice.

    Essential criteria

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent relevant experience
  • Evidence of personal and professional development
  • Registered nurse or AHP equivalent – Current Registration
