Job Title: Senior Technical Services Manager

Reports to: Project Director

Job Purpose

The Engineering Services business of ISG delivers our most technically complex engineering led projects. ISG as a whole turned over approximately £2.5bn in construction projects last year of which circa £750m was delivered by the Engineering Services business; the largest contributing sector of the business. We are a privately-owned company with strong financial resilience and a growing order book. We are specifically targeting growth in the Science and Health sector.

This role is to successfully lead the technical services function with the Main focus on hospital, labs and research facility projects. Leading a team of ISG TSM’s, MEP commercial managers, our MEP delivery partner and directly procured MEP packages.

Key Responsibilities

  • To pro-actively monitor Health & Safety processes and behaviours ensuring compliance with safety management systems.
  • Take ownership for M&E design, procurement and site delivery on a significant project.
  • To drive a zero defect culture and approach to handover.
  • To interrogate the design for completeness and quality and identify any value engineering opportunities at all design stages.
  • Champion methods of construction.
  • To provide guidance in the production of the project programmes.
  • To provide effective and timely assistance, advice and support during the project, and oversee the project teams responsible for producing it.
  • To contribute to the regular Project Report, and Project Meetings where appropriate.
  • To attend, and chair where appropriate, meetings with the Client, the designers, specialist contractors and other team members.
  • To ensure best practice and continuous improvement in divisional & project processes.

    At certain times during the project and at the close of the project the successful candidate will be required to assist in the securing of further projects:

  • To build and develop relationships e.g. marketing relationships with external professionals and clients, strategic relationships with contractors and suppliers.
  • To represent the company at pre-qualification, pre-tender and tender meetings and presentations.
  • To review technical and contractual aspects of proposed bids.
  • To provide content to proposal team for inclusion in tender proposals.
  • Upon award of project, co-ordinate timely and accurate handover from estimating, identifying risks; setting procurement strategy and establishing commercial targets.
  • Technical Services Function

  • Be responsible for the delivery of the building services engineering works.
  • To review designers and contractors’ drawings for completeness of information and compliance with contract requirements (specification, ER, etc).
  • Check ongoing installation for compliance with contract requirements (specification, drawings etc.) & advise the project or divisional team.
  • Provide expertise advice in planning, executing and closure of the building services commissioning process.
  • Supply Chain

  • Vet and propose contractors and specialist contractors, systems and manufacturers.
  • Assist/advise on all technical issues e.g. procurement, contracts, final accounts and dispute resolution, relationship issues, reporting, quality, our methods, philosophy and culture etc.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with directors of trade contractor organisations and other suppliers for all live projects.
  • Ensure workload is monitored for key trades to minimize overtrading risks.
  • Experience & Skills

  • Experience at Senior Technical Services Manager / Senior MEP Manager level of projects in excess of £20m MEP value.
  • Experience in the science and healthcare sector.
  • Understanding of and passion for prefabrication and off-site manufacturing.
  • Industry experience; track record of successful projects either internally or
  • In-depth knowledge of the construction process.
  • Understands the pre-construction process. Can organise and manage the design phase of a project.
