Key responsibilities

The key responsibilities of the Energy Advisor role are to provide a comprehensive advisory service on fuel poverty, energy and water efficiency and related topics to the public, both via tele helplines and face-to-face.

The full set of duties include:

  1. Assisting in the provision of a fuel poverty and energy advice service, including providing comprehensive sustainable energy and affordable warmth advice to the vulnerable clients and signposting/referring to relevant grants and schemes. To assist in the delivery of the Seasonal Health Intervention Network (SHINE).
  2. Supporting other staff members with home energy visits to advise on saving energy and water, fit smaller energy efficiency measures and identify potential for heating and insulation measures.
  3. Using a variety of methods to persuade and encourage shifts to more energy and water efficient living and to reduce fuel and water poverty including the provision of advice and information, training courses, workshops, and outreach work.
  4. Marketing the council’s advisory services to clients, including planning, co- ordinating and delivering presentations, events, and training sessions.
  5. Investigating energy related issues in the area, in particular co-ordinating the assistance that the council’s energy advice service and other organisations may be able to provide.
  6. Maintaining information systems and ensure material is updated
  7. Carrying out regular reviews of work programmes in conjunction with management
  8. Undertaking tele duties, as required.
  9. Dealing with all correspondence in connection with duties and prepare reports as necessary.
  10. Attending officer and other meetings as required and represent the Energy Advice Team as directed.
  11. Using and assisting others in the use of information technology systems to carry out duties in the most efficient and effective manner.
  12. Achieving agreed service outcomes and outputs, and personal appraisal targets, as agreed by the line manager.
  13. Undertaking training and constructively taking part in meetings, supervision, seminars and other events designed to improve communication and assist with the effective development of the post and post holder.
  14. Carrying out duties and responsibilities in accordance with the council’s commitment to customer service excellence and ensure compliance with the customer care standards.

Ensure legal, regulatory and policy compliance under GDPR, Health and Safety and in area of your specialism identifying opportunities and risks and escalating where appropriate.

Work style

Flexible, with two days a week in the office, plus other days as required. Some occasional evening and weekend working may be required for team events.
