We are looking for a Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer in Fashion Cultures to join our dynamic and growing team. The successful candidate will contribute to the students’ educational journey, bringing experience, skills and knowledge to inspire the next generation of fashion talent for an ever-changing industry.

About the role:

As a Fashion Cultures academic, you will be a highly analytical and collaborative individual, able to demonstrate professional teaching experience in related fashion theory with a strong grasp of the historical and contemporary narratives which affect the landscape of fashion. This will be underpinned by sound theoretical knowledge and high-quality academic research or knowledge exchange in the area. You will be a specialist in Critical and Contextual studies with knowledge and understanding of Fashion in its broadest sense, and you will have substantial teaching experience in Higher Education and have a proven track record of delivering high quality student experience, through curriculum delivery, development, and assessment in the field of Fashion Cultures. Expertise for teaching can encompass a wide range of subjects such as Popular Culture, Fashion Theory and Fashion History and you should be confident teaching across fashion business, fashion communication and fashion design programmes at UG and PG level.

Your research or knowledge exchange profile should align with the needs of the curriculum to contribute to the department’s research agenda and research-informed teaching. You will be expected to contribute to the research and/or knowledge exchange activities of the department for example by producing high-quality research outputs and developing funding bids. In addition, the post holder will contribute to developing an innovative curriculum in the subject of fashion cultures and demonstrate competency in driving effective approaches to improve graduate outcomes in the fashion sector.

Essential Skills:

  • A good first degree together with a PhD in a relevant discipline or equivalent qualifications.
  • An in-depth understanding of Fashion Cultures and Critical and Contextual studies.
  • Desirable:

  • A PGCE, Certificate of Education, PGCLTHE or membership of the Higher Education Academy (or commitment to obtain within three years of appointment).
  • Membership of relevant Professional bodies, demonstrating professional standing.
  • Successfully publish results of research to the REF, in peer-reviewed journals or monographs, or publish/exhibit professional practice
