An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic Neurological Occupational Therapist if you are an experienced band 5 or an existing band 6 keen to develop your expertise working with neurological conditions. 

You will be part of well coordinated, specialist multi-professional teams which are at the forefront of the rehabilitation agenda in Hackney. We work closely with nursing and therapy colleagues in multi-disciplinary teams across the acute and community teams.

Therapy Services at both Homerton University Hospital and St Leonards Hospital are dynamic, friendly and welcoming with regular informal social events arranged by staff.

Main duties of the job

This rotation offers you the chance to work in a variety of settings in a multi-cultural borough:

  • Regional Neurological Rehabilitation Unit for Acquired Brain Injury
  • Acute in-patient Stroke Unit
  • Adult Community Rehabilitation Team
  • Integrated Independence Team 
  • Acute Neuro Therapy Service
  • Wheelchair Service 
  • This Fixed Term Contract will be based in the Adult Community Rehabilitation Team based at St Leonards Hospital.

    We will give you the opportunity and support to broaden your occupational therapy skills and knowledge base, whilst developing your supervision and leadership skills working alongside specialist senior staff. The rotations are 9 months in duration and are based across two locations within Hackney; Homerton University Hospital and St Leonards Hospital.

    You will be encouraged to participate in student placement education, teaching programmes for Band 5 occupational therapists and assistant staff, as well as contribute to service development activities, audit and quality improvement work. You will receive regular supervision and support from senior OT clinicians and there are excellent opportunities and encouragement for continued professional development.

    Education / Skills / Experince / Knowlwdge

    Essential criteria

  • Degree / Diploma in Occupational therapy
  • HCPC
  • Ability to assess and implement appropriate treatment for a range of progressive and non-progressive neurological conditions.
  • Able to manage caseload and to prioritise under pressure.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills with all disciplines and clients to optimise management.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the provision of occupational therapy within the team.
  • Clear, concise verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work effectively within a multi professional team setting
  • General experience at a basic level.
  • Experience in neurology.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of Trust Values
  • Desirable criteria

  • Member of relevant special interest group.
  • Fieldwork accreditation
  • Fabrication of thermoplastic upper limb orthosis
