Guys and St Thomas is among the UKs busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts.     To be a specialist in healthcare simulation advising health care professionals on the delivery and development of simulation-based education.

    To develop simulation teaching packages which reflect current evidence and policy-based practices, in collaboration with simulation fellows, clinical specialists and other education leads in each Trust, the Medical Education administrative teams and the.

    To conduct a regular training needs analysis across both Trusts to identify key learning needs and develop simulation training programmes that are responsive to changes in national policy. These programmes should encompass all clinical staff including:

  • To quality assure, where appropriate, the delivery of training to ensure that staff attending training gain an appropriate level of Competence in line with their learning needs.

    To maintain Continued Professional Development attending relevant study days and conferences relevant to the practice of simulation training including those required to maintain instructor status.

    To manage and be responsible for the function of the centre, thereby ensuring that all simulation education and training is evaluated, reviewed, developed and delivered to a high standard in line with service and Trusts needs.

  • To horizon scan for educational opportunities and identify key stakeholders for collaborative working.
  • To be proactive, facilitation and engage with others in the assessment, development and review of performance of the simulation centres using a variety of data sources, as a platform for service improvement.
  • Establish internal and external partnerships working to maximise the use of the centres, to maximise the most efficient use of resources, faculty and sharing of best practice
  • Communication

  • Provide and receive complex information and ensure this is presented effectively to large groups of staff. To ensure that staff in the Medical Education Development and Workforce Department are provided with appropriate information with regards to the development of simulation based teaching from both within and out of the Trust and are appropriately briefed in the same
  • To represent the department at both internal and external meetings and actively participate, where appropriate.
  • To be key communicator for the simulation section of the MED education department in terms of business and day to day operational management internally and externally including nationally and internationally.
  • To coordinate the RBHT clinical education centre, Management Board and Management Committees, managing the centre administrator in the preparation of agendas and papers and approving draft minutes for circulation prior to approval.

  • To work with the Operations Manager with regards to advising new contracts with external providers to give best value to the Trust
