This post is a newly developed post aiming to support the provision of high quality Diabetes & Endocrinology Care in Inverclyde and surrounding areas.

The successful post holder will further enhance the service consisting of x3 wte consultants (one vacancy), x4 diabetes specialist nursing post holders (band 6-8), dietetic colleagues and rotating middle grade doctors (GPST/CT1-ST6 level).

The majority of clinical activity will be out-patient based, although the post will support the in-patient Diabetes & Endocrine team in the review of acute in-patient referrals and review.

Specialty diabetes clinics include pregnancy, young adult, paediatric transition, diabetes foot and Insulin pump clinics. Further experience in other out-patient clinics in Clyde hospitals may also be considered beneficial and be required to support clinical demand at time.

The Diabetes service is a dynamic department at the forefront of technological advances in Diabetes management; and the management of patients using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and insulin pumps (CSII) will become increasingly integral to the development of the service.

The department has full access to a range of dynamic endocrine function test via the out-patient department and medical day bed unit.

Successful applicants will be expected to contribute to the department Quality Improvement Programme, with the ability to link in with the wider Greater Glasgow & Clyde Diabetes Managed Clinical Network (MCN).

Experience in Diabetes & Endocrinology is desirable, but a proven commitment to speciality will be considered an essential requirement. Appropriate teaching and training (internal and external) will be provided to support further career development within the specialty, based upon previous experience and existing level of competence.

The basic hours of work will be Monday to Friday 9am-5pm.
