Job description

The Project Management function delivers some of the most complex and exciting projects in UK defence, offering fantastic variety with the support to shape and grow your career. Working arm-in-arm with Project Controls specialists, our teams deliver fast-paced, cutting-edge projects – from the newest armoured vehicles to ground-breaking future aviation technologies – while ensuring critical core programmes keep moving forward, too.

At Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S), we’re excited to be expanding our Project Management function.

We have progressive and dynamic positions for Project Managers to utilise and develop knowledge and experience in line with business needs to support our armed forces. This could include the distribution of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) across the country and the planning and distribution of the mass vaccination programme against COVID, or guaranteeing future capabilities involving robotics and automation to take people out an area of conflict. You will be supported by your manager and wider team to achieve your career goals and aspirations with mentoring available to fulfil your potential and funding for industry-recognised qualifications.

Responsibilities

– Lead, manage and develop multidisciplinary teams across varying levels of project complexity
– Be accountable for the delivery of project outputs ensuring the most cost-effective and efficient means of delivery
– Support an open, honest, no blame culture, proactively tackling shortfalls, learning from experience, and implementing constructive next steps
– Engage with stakeholders to identify, assess and mitigate risks to secure project delivery
– Meet with customers to successfully manage the start of projects, leading the development of project business cases and delivery plans
– Demonstrate a positive can-do attitude to all aspects of work with the adaptability and versatility to act as a catalyst for change
– Contribute to the continual improvement of the team, through a commitment to self-learning and supporting your team’s learning and development

What you will be assessed against
To be successful with your application you must demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:
* Leadership and people management, or that of a multi-disciplinary team
* Experience in managing a project to deliver outputs and outcomes
* Experience in stakeholder engagement and building positive working relationship
* The ability to solve problems and find solutions
* Proven ability to be resilient in an ever changing and volatile environment

It will also benefit your application if you are able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:
* APMP or Prince 2 qualification
