Funded by the Health Foundation, The Healthcare Improvement Studies Institute (THIS Institute) is building a large portfolio of studies ranging from small-scale qualitative work through to large-scale quantitative national studies, with a common goal of generating an evidence-base on how to improve quality and safety in healthcare. The research is characterised by a very high degree of patient, public, and staff engagement, and uses innovative methods including citizen science.

THIS Institute is building a large portfolio of studies, funded by a number of bodies, including small-scale qualitative work, public engagement projects, and large-scale national studies, examining a wide range of innovative approaches to healthcare improvement, quality and safety. We are seeking an enthusiastic and flexible Study Coordinator to provide oversight for our studies. The post holder will be responsible for developing and implementing operational procedures to effectively manage the institute’s portfolio of studies, and ensuring that our research is conducted to the highest ethical standards. The Study Coordinator will also be responsible for providing line management of the Study Coordination Assistant, and together the Study Coordination team will work closely with internal and external teams to ensure timely set-up and delivery of projects in compliance with research governance, ethics and data protection requirements.

The post holder will be educated to degree level in a relevant subject or have appropriate research experience. They will be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of running research studies in a healthcare environment; have an excellent understanding of good clinical practice and research governance; possess strong organisation and project management skills; and have experience of line managing or supervising staff. They will have significant experience of working in an NHS/academic research environment as a study coordinator/trial manager.

Funding for this post is available until 31 July 2023 in the first instance (with renewal possible depending on funding decisions) and the post-holder will be based at Strangeways Research Laboratory, Worts’ Causeway, Cambridge CB1 8RN (approximately 2 miles south of the city centre).

This post is full time and part-time applications are welcome at a minimum of 80% FTE.
