The role

An exciting research opportunity has arisen in the Quantum Engineering Technology Labs () at the University of Bristol. As a member of QET Labs, you will conduct research at the interface of quantum technologies, photonics, and experimental science. You will be part of a dynamic team and have the opportunity to interact with all members of QET Labs and the wider .

QET Labs is a Research Centre of over 100 academics, researchers, staff and students that encompasses a cluster of quantum-related activities spanning research, training and enterprise. Working together, we aim to transform science into real concept demonstrators and entrepreneurial innovation for the commercial success of quantum technologies. The Centre sits within both the School of Physics and the School of Computer Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Engineering Maths.

Multiple Research Associate positions are available of different durations. The duration of the post to be offered will be discussed following a successful interview. Applications will be considered periodically while the advert is open.

What will you be doing?

Your responsibilities will include working with others to formulate project plans, developing new techniques for classical and quantum optics characterisation and delivery of research outputs.

Specifically, you will be working in one of these key areas of research:

  • Quantum Computing
  • Quantum Communications
  • Quantum Sensing/Imaging
  • Solid State quantum systems
  • Integrated Quantum Photonics
  • Pure or applied quantum information theory
  • You should apply if

  • You have a strong track record in the design, implementation, and analysis of photonic devices or quantum information processing with photons
  • You have expertise in optical engineering or quantum optics and a demonstratable understanding of its major platforms, e.g. integrated photonics, emitters
  • You have postgraduate (or equivalent) laboratory experience in one of experimental physics, optics, photonics, electronics, or a related discipline
  • You have a PhD (or equivalent qualification) and first degree in Physics, Electrical/ Electronic Engineering, or other relevant discipline (or equivalent relevant research experience)
  • This position is presented as full-time. Flexible working options are considered. QET Labs is committed to helping researchers become independent academics and have extensive experience in aiding PDRAs with fellowship applications.
