The Job

The Naval Authority Group (NAG) is a pan-maritime group supporting submarines and ships, within the SDA, and we are looking for a Marine Structural Engineer to join us. Our teams provide Naval Authority assurance and specialised expertise to the submarine projects from concept, through build and in-service.

In return, you will be offered access to extensive world-class training to develop your skills and knowledge as one of our Marine Structural Engineers.

Due to security, this role is limited to sole UK nationals only.

Responsibilities

You will work in a small team contributing to the safe management of Royal Navy submarine structures, managing key hazard certification, undertaking structural analysis and providing technical expertise to the submarine projects from concept to in-service.

You will be developed to use submarine structures analysis tools along with Finite Element Analysis (FEA), whilst being responsible for the maintenance of a portfolio of submarine structures naval standards and guidance documentation.

Your role will involve the safety assurance of submarine structures for all in-service and new construction vessels, and main responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

* Act as reviewing officer for Structures Key Hazard Certification
* Undertake FEA for Structural issues in support of submarine projects
* Provide subject matter advice to projects
* Maintain and, when appropriate, write Structures guidance documents in support of projects and industry
* Assist with the development and maintenance of structures training activities and courses

What you will be assessed against

To be successful with your application you must demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:

* You will hold a Level 4 (e.g. HNC), or higher, qualification in naval architecture / shipbuilding / marine or mechanical engineering or related subject, or equivalent relevant experience
* Experience of providing technical advice and delivery of successful engineering outcomes

It will also benefit your application if you are able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:

* Experience of FEA, ideally Abaqus or similar (i.e. Ansys)
* Experience of maritime design (preferably underwater) and its practical realisation
